Phnom Penh: Deputy Prime Minister SOK Chenda Sophea, who also serves as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, is set to lead a high-level delegation to the Ninth Mekong-Lancang Foreign Ministers' Meeting, scheduled to take place in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on August 16, 2024. The Cambodian Foreign Minister received an invitation from Maris SANGIAMPONGSA, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.
The meeting, themed "Towards a Safer and Cleaner Mekong-Lancang Community," aims to provide a platform for the Foreign Ministers to assess the progress made under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) mechanism. Key discussions will focus on the implementation of significant outcomes from the Fourth MLC Leaders' Meeting held last December. The ministers will also explore strategies to address emerging challenges and advance cooperation based on the Five-Year Plan of Action on the MLC (2023-2027) to benefit the peoples of the Mekong sub-region.
During his visit to Chiang Mai, Deputy Prime Minister SOK Chenda Sophea will participate in a courtesy call on Mr. Srettha THAVISIN, Prime Minister of Thailand, alongside other MLC Foreign Ministers. Additionally, he is expected to engage in bilateral talks with his counterparts, further strengthening ties and cooperation within both bilateral and multilateral frameworks.
